Matt cast his number 5, silver Mepps spinner against a rocky/brushy bank in Hornby Lake, Ontario Canada. The 40 inch Northern hit the spinner immediately. Initially, Matt thought he was hung on a log as it did not move, then the fight began. The large northern went from a few inches of water to the middle of the bay which was approximately 30 feet deep. The battle lasted approximately 1 1/2 hours, and ended when Matt's grandfather netted the giant pike.
