WORLD RECORD WALLEYE
A new state weight record for walleye was caught at Kanawha Falls in Fayette County. On February 2, 2003, Steve Skeens of Shrewsberry caught the record fish around 11:30 a.m. while fishing for musky with chubs. The new record fish weighed 17.82 pounds and was 32 inches in length. The previous weight record of 17.22 pounds was held by Billy Ray, who caught his fish in the Gauley River in 1990. Fred Cline holds the length record with a 35-inch walleye, also from Kanawha Falls. Mr. Skeens also is the current record holder in weight for a skipjack he caught in the Kanawha River.
